Liebster.

Happy Friday! I honestly feel obligated to start out a post like that, but let’s be real — I now hate it when people get all hyped up about Friday. Because Friday isn’t¬†my Friday. It’s generally my Wednesday, so nothing to get too excited about! But I realize most people have a normal work/school schedule, so happy Friday to all of you ūüôā

liebster

What is happy about today is that I was nominated by the lovely Kaila from Healthy Helper¬†to fill out the Liebster survey. You know I love surveys, so I’m alllllll over this. Thanks Kaila!

The Rules

1) You must link back to the person who nominated you

2) You must answer the 10 Liebster questions given to you by the nominee before you

3) You must pick 10 bloggers to be nominated for the award (with a small following)

4) You must create 10 questions for your nominees

5) You must go to their blogs and notify the nominees

Kaila’s Questions

1. What was your favorite show as a middle schooler?

Is it totally embarrassing that I still watched¬†Arthur¬†at that age? It was a really good show though…and in my defense, my little sister was still 7 or 8 at the time, so completely acceptable ūüėČ

2. What season were you born in?

Summer! I’m absolutely obsessed with my birthday. I’ve never had to go to school (or work now) on my birthday and I’ve spent many birthdays at a waterpark or on vacation. Summer has always been my favorite season, and it’s partly because it’s my birthday season. Just a month and two weeks until the big day!

I just love summer!

I just love summer!

3. What Disney princess did you want to be when you were little?

I always identified with Belle, because I used to love reading (I was always in advanced reading classes as a kid and got to read all the exciting books) and I have long brown hair.

4. If you could wake up tomorrow and be fluent in another language, which would you choose?

Spanish. I know that sounds boring, but I took Spanish classes from second grade through my senior year of high school, and still didn’t pick up much of the language. I also want to live somewhere in the southwestern U.S., where Spanish really comes in handy!

5. If you could wear only one color or pattern for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Can you tell I love pink?

Can you tell I love pink?

Color: pink! Pattern: floral.

6. What’s your least favorite fictional couple?¬†

This is hard — I can’t even really think of any off hand! I guess I’ll say Chandler and Janice from¬†Friends¬†(still love that show!). Even though they didn’t end up together, they were totally not meant to be.

7. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

This is going to sound weird, but I’ve had a few people tell me I have a really good voice. Not singing-wise, but for talking. It makes me feel good, since I’m still chasing after my goal of becoming a TV anchor someday and having a good speaking voice is key!

8. What is the most unusual food you’ve ever eaten?

A raw enchilada at my favorite vegan spot. I don’t even know how to describe it — it was different than a regular enchi, but sooooooo much better. And the side of ‘rawfried’ beans was spot on like refried beans, but made with nuts and zucchini!

Not my picture, but they looked a lot like these!

Not my picture, but they looked a lot like these!

9. If you had to choose to lose one of the five senses, which would you choose and why?

I¬†would¬†choose smell, but since smell and taste are connected (and I don’t wanna lose my sense of taste), I’m going to go with touch. Yeah, it’d be a little weird not to feel things, and I’d have to be careful not to get burned, but it would probably be the easiest to go without.

10. Name 3 blogs you read on a daily basis.

Hungry Hungry Hippie¬†(even though she’s not vegan anymore, her food always looks so good and her little guy is so cute), Happy.Healthy.Life.¬†(the most drool-worthy vegan food ever), Extra Petite (not necessarily on a daily basis, but I love getting fashion inspiration from a fellow petite lady).

Since I don’t know 10 people to tag who haven’t done this yet, I’m going to cheat and tag anyone who wants to do this…and you can just answer the same 10 questions I did!

Answer any of the above!

Quote

Lucky Number 11

Did you know that 11 is one of my lucky numbers? It’s true. The other one is 7, because my birth date is 7-27. And 11 is lucky for me because it rhymes with 7 haha!

Anyways, that was just my lame lead-in to the real post, which is the 11 Things Survey I was tagged in by the hilarious and beautiful Alexandra¬†recently tagged me in. I was super busy all weekend, without much access to a computer and while it felt great, I’ve been itching to do this survey for a while so here it (finally) is!

Here’s the rules:

#1 You must post these rules.
#2 Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
#3 Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.

My 11 Things

1. I am a klutz in disguise. Last year, I couldn’t seem to stop tripping over my own feet. I blame it on the fact that I had only been on campus a few months and didn’t know all the cracks and bumps in the sidewalks. I’ve also sprained my left wrist when someone accidentally pushed me during a game, I fractured my right ankle in an acro dance class and I got a huge¬†bump on my forehead back in sixth grade when I tripped over my pants and smacked my head on this wooden step we had in our house. Basically, you can count on me getting hurt in some way every few months at least!

2. I have never been out of the country. Lame, I know, but my family has never been huge on traveling. I’ve been to quite a few U.S. states, at least on road trips, but my first destination out of the country I’d love to go is the Caribbean. I love beaches, the ocean and it’s just gorgeous there!

Isn't this just breath-taking?

3. I have hated¬†eggs my entire life. Some foods, people learn to love. But me and eggs have never gotten along. They just sketch me out, so giving them up when going mostly vegan wasn’t hard at all, since I never enjoyed them to begin with.

4. I’ve been interested in journalism for more than half of my life. Since I was little, I’ve always loved to write. I used to write and illustrate picture books when I was really young, and then I moved on to writing a monthly family newsletter, being part of a writing club at school, being a Yerd (Yearbook nerd) for 3 years, anchoring/reporting/filming/editing for my school district’s TV station and finally majoring in it in college. My first job, which I just got a few months ago, as my school’s faculty newsletter editor, is also related to my chosen field. I’m hoping that at some point, I can be an anchor, meteorologist or fashion correspondent for a TV news show!

5. I’ve tried a lot of sports–dance (for 11 years), soccer (2 years), karate (1 year), tennis (playing on and off for a few years) and yoga (1 year). Now I really love to do yoga and intense cardio circuits on a daily basis, go for long walks and mountain bike and play tennis during the summer. Running is definitely not my thing, but I would love to start doing it occasionally.

Me (left) and my sister getting ready for one of our many dance recitals.

6. I basically can’t live without sweet stuff. If I could, I would totally skip dinner to have soy chocolate and birthday cake gelato (my two favorite flavors). Fruit makes a daily appearance and I have always thought the idea of having a savory breakfast to be disgusting. I have a major sweet tooth, and I’m proud of it!

7. I’m a total worrier. Sometimes when I stay home alone, I swear I hear noises upstairs and think someone broke in. Every weekend that my mom comes to pick me up and there’s snow in the forecast, I’m worried that she won’t be able to get me and I’ll have to suffer through another boring weekend on campus, plus not be able to restock my food. Whenever I have a huge headache, I’m scared that I have an¬†aneurysm and I’m gonna die. Yeah,¬†¬†none of this stuff ever happens but I just freak out anyways.

8. I have an addiction to random medical-type shows. I love The Doctors, Mystery Diagnosis, My Strange Addiction, Freaky Eaters and all those shows like that. They are just so fascinating to me, and I can’t stop watching!

Love this show!

9. I’ve been talking since I was 9 months old…and I haven’t stopped since ūüėČ When I’m with people I know really well, I can’t seem to shut up. I also have a bad habit of talking with food in my mouth–oops!

10. Someday, I really want to live somewhere with water and mountains–like California. I’ve grown up in the mountains and I just love how gorgeous they are, but I also love the beach so living somewhere with both would be my dream come true.

11. I hate hate hate the color black. I refuse to wear it, because I think it looks blah and too depressing. Most people like to wear neutral colors in the winter but not me–I still love wearing my pastels and brights, mixed with neutrals of course!

Alexandra’s Questions

1.¬†Do you have any pets?¬†Nooooooo, but I really want one! I’ve had two hermit crabs (Hermy #1 and Hermy #2) and two hamsters (Peanut and Princess) in the past but right now I have nada, since I live in a dorm and my family has none at home either. I would love a greyhound puppy though!

2. Favorite novel? The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. I love all of them, especially the 3rd and 4th books, and the original movie. I always wish I had been one of the sisters.

3. If you could own any zoo animal what would it be and why?¬†I am obsessed with flamingos, because they’re pink, so I would have one as a living decoration in my room!

Favorite animal ever!

4. What would be your dream job? Being a fashion reporter for a morning TV news program.

5. Biggest goal for 2012? Go completely vegan.

6. If you knew you would die tomorrow, what would you choose as your last meal ever?¬†A big bowl of gelato, preferably soy chocolate and birthday cake flavored! Told you I have a sweet tooth ūüėõ

7. Worst injury you’ve suffered?¬†My fractured right ankle in 4th grade–I got a glow-in-the-dark cast for it, which was legit, but I was bummed that I didn’t need crutches since I was always jealous of my BFF who was on crutches a lot for various injuries.

8. States you’ve lived in? Arizona (from birth until age 2) and Colorado (the rest of my life).

9. Mac or PC?¬†I love my striped Dell baby, but I also love my iPod touch…

10. Favorite Disney princess?¬†Belle, because she looks like me and she’s smart!

I love her dress too--it's such a happy color!

11. If you discovered a new dinosaur species, what would you name it? Nanosaur, after this computer game I used to play in elementary school when we had an iMac.

My Questions

1. What is your favorite macronutrient (carb, fat, protein)?

2. What is one thing in your house that you couldn’t live without?

3. What was your favorite class ever in school?

4. What’s your favorite sport to watch on TV or in real life?

5. What’s your least favorite season and why?

6. What is one of your weirdest habits?

7. Magazines or books?

8. What grosses you out?

9. What was your best birthday and why?

10. What store could you live in?

11. What’s one thing you want to do before you die?

And I tag…everyone who wants to do this who hasn’t! I know a lot of people have already been tagged but if you haven’t, consider yourself tagged!

Answer any of the above questions!

WIAW: Award Season

Can you believe it’s already the second WIAW party of the year? Um, nope, neither can I! If the year’s already going by this fast, that’s a good sign. The first few months of the year always tend to drag on, which isn’t fun. I already can’t wait for summer break, which is pretty pathetic ūüėõ

Peas and Crayons

Anyways, the very sweet and beautiful Kat just tagged me in the Lactose Free Lizzie Food Award. It is award season, after all, with the Golden Globes and SAG Awards and the Oscars all coming up within the next month or so!

‚ÄúThe blogger that is tagged must host an award thing-ama-gig about FOOD. Yes, food (it‚Äôs the food awards). Anything related to it. A food blogger, a company, a favorite meal, or even whatever you like to sprinkle on your popcorn. After you are finished you tag 3 other bloggers to host a Food¬† Award ceremony (aka a post). But remember, you may only focus on the positive aspects of what you are awarding. No negativity is tolerated, especially if it will hurt someone‚Äôs feelings). Also, you are ALL winners in my book, even if you are not mentioned¬†¬† xoxo Lizzie‚ÄĚ

Nominees for Best Greek Yogurt Flavor

  • Oikos superfruits
  • Siggis orange & ginger
  • Fage mango guanabana

Winner–Oikos! I’ll admit that I’m a diehard Oikos fan (the original Stonyfield organic kind, not the new Dannon variety), so all of their flavors are winners in my book, but the superfruits takes the cake!

Breakfast: turtle sundae voluminous overnight oats (topped with banana soft serve, small Medjool date, chopped pecans), unpictured spicy veggie sausage

Nominees for Best Veggie Burger

  • Sunshine falafel burger
  • Gardein ultimate beefless burger
  • Amy’s low sodium California burger

Winner–Gardein! I actually love all these veggie burgers, but the Gardein has the most protein, 17 grams in one burger. Not too shabby!

Lunch: random snack plate of steamed edamame (with mustard for dipping), the thickest peanut flour paste I've ever made, fresh pineapple

Nominees for Best Nut Butter

  • MaraNatha natural honey almond butter
  • Whole Foods bulk crunchy almond butter
  • Archer Farms almond peanut cashew butter

Winner–Archer Farms almond peanut cashew butter! Obviously, almond butter is my hands-down favorite nut butter, but this one has the creamiest texture and a great mixed nuts taste.

Afternoon snack: peanut flour paste, fresh pineapple, frozen black grapes, teaspoon of homemade cookie butter

Nominees for Best Use of Sweet Potatoes

  • Alexia sweet potato tater tots
  • topped with nut butter and cinnamon
  • the base of a baked good

Winner–Alexia sweet potato tots! I love these crunchy little nuggets of sweet potato goodness. They’re much healthier than typical tater tots, because they’re baked not fried and cooked in just a little olive oil. Definitely my favorite way to enjoy my favorite veggie!

Dinner: homemade vegetarian spicy chili, iced unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze (first time trying this brand of AM and I'm hooked!)

Nominees for Most Versatile Product

  • Medjool dates
  • Oats
  • Peanut flour

Winner–peanut flour! All three of these are staples in my daily eats, but I can’t deny the amazing-ness of peanut flour. It’s a great sub for flour, is delicious as a protein powder, works well in microwave mug cakes and (my personal favorite) is beyond yummy mixed into a paste with water! It’s like a higher protein version of nut butter!

Dessert: Raw carrot cake bite with peanut flour 'frosting'

I’m passing the award onto… Aja @ Writing and Recovering, Chloe¬†@ LightOnMyFeet¬†and Lena¬†@ Fit on the Rocks!

What’s your nominee for most versatile product? What is one food you’ve been obsessed with lately?

WIAW+Facts of Life

Hey lovelies! I loved all your responses to my weekend update post. I honestly had no idea that everyone would be so in love with my glasses! I think they’ll be making a more regular appearance around here ūüėČ

It’s that time again–WIAW! I can always gauge how quickly a week is going by if I find myself scrambling to gather pics for WIAW. That’s a good thing, though; I hate when school weeks drag on forever. Especially when I have something to look forward to on the weekend. Oh well, that’s life. This week has been going by decently fast, which is great, because I can’t wait for this weekend–or more specifically, Saturday. I’ll get to that soon! For now, just enjoy some foodie pics and a little blogger questionnaire that I found on Alexis’ blog.

Peas and Crayons

How could I start a morning without overnight oats? I couldn't, of course, you know me. Today's lovely creation was dark chocolate oats topped with a spoonful of Whole Foods chocolate apple crunch trail mix. Alongside a spicy veggie sausage and gummy vitamins. A heart bowl makes it that much better. And cuter.

¬†Fact 1) I have never been to the East Coast, except for Florida. Yes, I realize that’s pretty crazy, especially to all you (many many) East Coast-based bloggies out there. But hey, I’m a Western girl at heart. Born and raised out here, baby. And I don’t plan on ever moving out of this region. I ideally want to move to California (either San Diego or San Fran, but I’m not too picky), Phoenix (my birth cit-ay) or Denver. In that order.

Quickie lunch between classes is always fun. Strawberry Oikos Greek yo' cup, all mixed up with Bear Naked Fit triple berry crunch granola. So good for a super-fast lunchie.

¬†Fact 2) I go to the school that had the major pool party over the weekend that’s all over the news and YouTube. I mean, really, guys, The Huffington Post covered it. Way to take away CU’s party school status, CSU. Go Rams?????

Ahoy matey! Okay, I'll stop trying to be cool. Outfit of the day, inspired by all things nautical (and nerdy): royal blue striped tee (Hollister), navy culotte shorts (Abercrombie & Fitch), ultra cool nerd glasses.

¬†Fact 3) I collect rubber ducks. Oh yeah, you know you wanna be friends with me now. Seriously, though, I’ve gotten 2-3 every year of the past 5 years or so (from an annual Labor Day rubber duckie race in a ski town near me) and I’ve got quite the collection now, from a cheerleader duck to a Mardi Gras one.

Snackplate time! Literally, on a plate. Kashi TLC crackers, agave/almond butter dip, frozen banana slices. Sweet, salty and cold all in one. But mostly just yum.

¬†Fact 4) Lady Gaga is my favorite. Despite her weirdness at the VMAs the other night (what were you thinking dressing like a dude, LG?), I will forever be a fan of her music. She is just so chill and I love that she isn’t afraid to make a fool of herself with her outfit choices. Most of them I approve of (but Sunday night’s choice? Not so much.)

More outfit footage. These glasses are becoming a go-to for me. I blame you guys for your love of them ūüėČ

Fact 5) I really LOVE spicy foods! Seriously, give me spicy over salty any day, I can take it. Some of my favorite spicy foods include: Indian curries, fresh jalapeno peppers (especially on veggie burgers), really hot salsas, chile powder and the spicy veggie sausages I have every day for breakfast.

Overnight oats making their first (hopefully not last) appearance at dinner time! These were my PB&J Remix oats: 1/3 c. thick rolled oats, mixed with raisins and topped with PB Puffins and fresh black grapes. Heaven in a bowl, I tell ya!

Fact 6) Yearbook nerd alert! Yes, I was on my school’s YBK for 3 years in high school. I was a section editor, went to yearbook camp twice and even traveled three hours three different¬†times to go to a yearbook conference at the school I’m going to now. Yeah, I was a hardcore yearbooker.

I like to make a mess when I eat. Plain 0% Fage mixed with chocolate whey protein powder and 2 duplex cookies. Who said yogurt messes couldn't include cookies?

Fact 7) I love Mediterranean/Greek cuisine. Falafel, hummus, tabouleh, vegan gyros, pita, baba ganoush, olives–it’s my favorite cuisine, hands-down. I think I could totally live in that area and be completely happy.

Tell me one fun¬†fact about you! Oh, P.S., I changed my blog design once again. What can I say, I’m kinda obsessed with changing it every time there’s a new layout that looks cool. Change is good, right?
