On Being a Nerd

I have a confession to make…I’m a nerd. And honestly, I don’t care who knows.

Since when is it ‘uncool’ to be passionate about something? Why do we have to feign disinterest in certain topics just because it’ll make us fit in if we do? Why can’t we all embrace our ‘nerdy’ sides?

I'm so nerdy I wear these huge glasses for real (and love them)!

I truly believe everyone is a nerd about something. For me, there are a couple things I geek out about. One is weather. I plan on going back to school as soon as possible (maybe this fall?) to get my meteorology certificate. I want to forecast the weather on TV someday, I get excited about storms and I always know what the temperature’s going to be each day. I even dragged my family to a weather museum when we were on spring break in Houston!

I love being up on the wall!

Another thing I completely love is nutrition. I could research it all day and read every article there is. I’m totally passionate about eating healthy, and encouraging others to do the same. I love trying out new ingredients in my own cooking, using superfoods to boost nutrient density and of course, browsing grocery store aisles and being an avid label reader.

No sugar-filled juices for this girl. I only go for the fresh-pressed, fruit and veggie-packed varieties!

What are you a ‘nerd’ about?

  1. Marketing, particularly food marketing.
    Obesity.
    Peanut Butter and Jelly.

It is so awesome you are pursuing what you are passionate about. (Weather).

I need to figure out my career.

    • You should somehow combine all your loves into one! I mean, they’re all somewhat related and I think a career based on PB&Js has to be pretty amazing.

  2. I geek out so hard over nutrition based information, and about running, and about anything that has to do with science related topics. Like the science of coffee, science of our bodies, and of course food. I also listen to NPR like I’m 90 yrs old.

I think it’s so cool that you are passionate about meteorology. I really do think that if we all just pursue what we love, we’d all be much more productive and happier! I’m nerdy about the biochemistry of nutrition and exercise biology/physiology, but I’m also interested in things that relate to sustainability and the environment.

  4. I’m a nerd about movies, Disney, Sherlock, fitness/lifting, and writing. Being a nerd is awesome. And I’ll admit that I totally geek out about Sherlock. I livestreamed it when it was coming out in London because I couldn’t wait 1-2 months for it to come to America on PBS.

    • I’ve always been fascinated when people are obsessed with certain shows! Because I’ve never been that into a TV show and I think it would be cool to know everything about it and eagerly await a new season!

      • I guess it’s, for me, because i’m a writer and screenwriting is my chosen profession so I just get so much more into it all.
